Industries
Industries
Nine target industries buy very different things from the same range and open with very different questions. This register shows what each industry buys, what it looks for in a supplier and which product groups are relevant.
Nine industries, one range
Every industry asks a different first question
A blender asks about batch consistency, a mining operation about the lead time to a remote site, an agricultural importer about the delivery window before sowing. Knowing these questions in advance saves both sides the first phone call, which is usually unproductive.
For this reason the page has no general list of advantages. It is a register: for each industry what it buys, what it looks for, and the relevant product groups from the range.
Industry, need, first question
| Industry | Buys | Looks for | First question | Product groups |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lubricant blenders | Group I to III base oils, in part PAO and esters, as well as finished additive packages for engine, gear, hydraulic and grease formulations. | Consistent specification from batch to batch, a COA and technical data sheet with every delivery, compatibility with the existing additive recipe. | Which COA and TDS can you supply per batch, and is the specification consistent from batch to batch? | Base OilsAdditives & DI Packages |
| Distributors and resellers | Finished lubricants in drums, IBC or bulk, in part filled under their own label for their own distribution. | Price scales by volume, ability to deliver in FCL rather than only bulk tankers, payment terms, freedom to use their own brand for private label. | What is your smallest tradable lot size, and do you also supply FCL rather than only bulk tankers? | Finished Lubricants |
| Refineries and petrochemical plants | Feedstock, base oils as an intermediate for their own blending, in part additives and by-product offtake. | Contract volume with continuity over annual or quarterly terms, a price formula rather than a fixed price, logistics capability up to the terminal. | Can you contract on a price formula such as Platts or Argus plus differential, and what does your logistics chain to the terminal look like? | Base OilsPetrochemicals & Polymers |
| Mining | Heavy duty lubricants, hydraulic oils and greases for open pit equipment, built to cope with dust and extreme temperatures. | Availability even at remote sites, security of supply over months rather than single deliveries, technical advice on site. | Can you deliver regularly to a remote site, and what is your lead time? | Finished Lubricants |
| Agriculture and fertiliser import | Prilled and granular urea at 46 % N, DAP, and NPK components to recipe. | Delivery on time within the narrow window before sowing, certificate of origin, biuret content and moisture, price relative to the Platts or Argus reference. | Can you deliver in time for the growing season, and with what origin and specification for biuret and granulometry? | Urea & Fertilisers |
| Water treatment | Coagulants such as polyaluminium chloride and aluminium sulphate, flocculant aids, chlorine derivatives and chemicals for pH correction. | Purity grade matched to the application, regulatory conformity depending on whether drinking water or industrial wastewater, steady supply of small quantities. | Does the product meet the required purity specification for our application, and is there a certificate of analysis? | Industrial Chemicals |
| Construction and bitumen | Bitumen by penetration grade or modified with polymers, in part process chemicals for the asphalt mixing plant. | A supply chain that holds temperature, because bitumen has to be transported hot. Availability in bulk and drums, project quantities with a clear schedule. | Can you deliver bitumen in heated tanks or in bulk to our site, and what is the lead time for a project volume of X tonnes? | Bitumen |
| Marine and bunkering | Marine lubricants such as cylinder and system oil as well as bunker fuels and the associated additives. | Availability at the relevant anchorages, fast logistics by bunker barge, conformity with the current IMO and MARPOL specifications. | Can you bunker at short notice when the vessel calls, and does the oil meet the current IMO specifications? | Finished LubricantsPetroleum & Fuels |
| Oilfield services | Drilling lubricants, specialty greases and process chemicals such as corrosion inhibitors and drilling fluid additives. | Technical advice on site, fast delivery at short notice for drilling projects, certification to API standards. | Are your products certified to API standards, and can you deliver to the well site within a few days? | Finished LubricantsIndustrial Chemicals |
Fertiliser has to arrive within its delivery window. If it comes after sowing, the best specification is worthless.
